Doodles

093

In keeping with my “Art” resolution,  I started an online class last night.  Doodles Unleashed: Mixed Media Techniques is an online class being taught by Traci Bautista as the first workshop in the

Strathmore 2012 Online Workshop Series(P.S. It’s free and you can still sign up!)

I hadn’t planned on working on anything just yet and I haven’t even gotten my supplies together.  However, there’s something about watching someone doodle that makes me want to do the same.  So I drug out the markers and some scrap paper to doodle the image above while watching Traci play with plastic canvas, India ink, and White-Out pens.

When I first signed up for this class I know I was thinking the same thing you’re probably thinking right now…do you really need to take a class to learn how to doodle?  The answer to that question is, yes.  Because it’s not the actual doodling that I wanted instruction for, it’s the mixing of the media, what products do what, stencil ideas, and don’t forget to add the black last-unless of course you want it to be washed out, faded or painted over.

Plus I want to be able to take what I learn and apply it to teaching the kids how to take their ‘kid’ doodles to the next level of artfulness.  Taking a doodle and making it a piece of art is not as easy as it seems.
